Top 10 Principles for Extensive Reading / 다독의 10가지 원칙

1. The reading material is easy. 
읽기 자료는 쉬워야 한다.

   Easy books build speed. Speed builds fluency. Fluency builds understanding

   (속도-> 유창성 -> 이해력)

 

2. There’s a wide variety of material on a wide variety of topics. 

   다양한 토픽의 다양한 형태의 책/자료들을 읽는다.

   We read different thing, in different ways, for different reasons.

   음식도 편식하면 탈나거나 영양이 결핍되죠? 독서도 마찮가지입니다~  

 

3. Learners choose what they want to read. 

   아이가 읽고 싶은 책을 고른다. 

   Interest leads to understanding.
And to more reading.

   아이의 관심이 이해와 다독의 길로 이끕니다. 싫어하는건 읽기 싫겠죠 ? ㅎㅎ 

 

4. Learners read as much as possible. 

   가능한 많이 읽는다 (영어 노출 증가)

 

5. The purpose is usually pleasure, information and general understanding. 

   읽기의 목적은 즐거움, 정보, 전반적 이해이다. 

 

6. Reading is its own reward. 

   읽기 자체가 보상이 되어야 한다
(영어책읽기를 즐겨라!) 

   We are teaching the “joy of reading.”
It shouldn’t always be a test.

   읽기의 즐거움을 가르쳐야지 시험이 되어서는 안됨

 

7. Reading speed is fast.
The need for speed = fluency. 

    빠르게 읽는다 (유창성 확보)

 

8. Reading is individual and silent. 

   혼자 조용히 읽는다 (묵독)

 

9. Teachers guide their students.  

   선생님/엄마가 아이들을 지도한다

   Extensive Reading is different from what many learners have experienced before. 
We need to show them how and why.

   다독은 학습자들이 이전에 경험한 것과는 다를수 있으므로 보호자가 어떻게/왜 하는지 보여줄 필요가 있습니다. 

 

10. The teacher is a role model. 

    선생님/엄마가 롤 모델이 되자! 

   “Reading is caught, not taught.”

    리딩은 자연그럽게 물드는것이지 가르쳐지는 것이 아님
